Atletico Madrid have struggled to impress on the road lately and they host Espanyol for their Matchday 13 clash with a disappointing Champions League trip to Leverkusen (2-1) behind them – where Alvaro Morata’s late goal meant nothing but a consolation as their top 2 spot in Group D remains in danger with two games left to play.

Atleti have thus extended a three-match winless streak after being held off by Sevilla (1-1) and Deportivo Alaves (1-1) on the road as well, now desperate to finally bounce to the winning ways and build on a top 4 spot with as many as five sides looking to jump them on La Liga table.

Espanyol have indeed seen a troubled start of the campaign and they sit in the relegation zone after 12 games played, with a three-point gap to the 17th placed Mallorca already. They’ve seen losses to Athletic Bilbao (3-0) and Valencia (1-2) in their last two league outings and the Europa League campaign has been the only bright spot lately.

Indeed, RCDE outclassed Ludogorets (6-0) midway through the week and this was their third win in a row after opening the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Ferencvaros, which will be a great confidence booster. However, causing an upset at Wanda Metropolitano will be much more of a challenge.
