Athletic Bilbao vs Granada Match Preview
Athletic Bilbao host Granada for their Copa del Rey clash on Wednesday evening looking to show off their character in front of the home fans despite their lost consistency of recent, desperate for advantage ahead of the trip to Los Carmenes scheduled for early March 2020.
Lions have seen Real Sociedad (2-1) snatch all three points in an exciting contest at Reale Arena on Sunday and they’ll have to bounce quickly, having failed to build on a Quarter-finals win over Barcelona (1-0). They have been a very tough nut to break at San Mames Barria but still turned just one of their last four home outings their way, which will leave Gaizka Garitano with a lot to think about.
Granada, on the other hand, suffered a narrow loss at Atletico Madrid (1-0) over the weekend, where an early opener from Angel Correa proved enough to end their three-match winning streak across competitions. They have seen their goalscoring inconsistency on the road emphasized once again and Diego Martinez’s men will need more in Bilbao.
Nasrids have beaten Badajoz (on penalties after a 3-3 draw) and Valencia (2-1) in two Copa del Rey clashes since late January, bagging the points against rock-bottomed Espanyol (2-1) along the way. They failed to find the net on four of their last seven trips, though, and this could make the lack of clean sheets more worrying here.
We feel Athletic Bilbao will now be able to earn an advantage ahead of the second leg and we’ll go for them to win at 3/4 with William Hill, which feels like great value despite a narrow contest in the making on Wednesday evening.
Indeed, Lions have been tough to score against and with Granada’s lack of goalscoring consistency, we’ll now also go for them to keep a clean sheet at 17/20 with William Hill. This would be their fourth clean sheet in six home outings, which does feel like further evidence for such a bet.
