Atalanta vs Man City Match Preview
Manchester City travel to Milan for their Champions League clash at Atalanta looking to build on a five-match winning streak across competitions just days after narrowly beating Southampton (2-1), where a late comeback through goals from Sergio Aguero and Kyle Walker brought all three points at Etihad Stadium.
Citizens beat the Saints (3-1) in League Cup just days beforehand too and we’ve seen them in fine form up front, which has made up for defensive slip-ups we’ve been seeing – including a 5-1 win over Atalanta two weeks ago where they also fell behind early on. They will now hope for more of the same and we feel Pep Guardiola’s men will be in a great mood.
Atalanta have, on the other hand, struggled for such pick-me-ups lately and this has us them coming into the game looking for an upset. They snatched a point at Napoli (2-2) midway through last week but then saw Cagliari (0-2) snatch all three in Bergamo, which emphasized their inconsistency once again.
La Dea have been scoring goals on the regular, though, and the disappointing loss behind them was the first occasion where they failed to find the net in over a month and a half. They will now surely employ an attacking approach in search of their first Group C points, which promises another exciting occasion in the making.
We will still back Man City to turn it their way and going for an Away win at 1/2 with William Hill really looks like a banker bet, seeing they’ve been in a much better place lately and will want to seal a top 2 spot on the day already.
We don’t feel we’re in for anything close to a one-sided contest this time around, though, and Atalanta should prove a much tougher side to beat. While we still expect goals here, we’ll now also go for Under 3.5 Goals FT at 11/10 with Paddy Power and hope we’re not in for an early opener.
