Aston Villa vs Norwich Match Preview
Aston Villa will finish the season in fifth place no matter what happens in this game following a 1-1 draw at Leeds last time out. It was a controversial game that saw Leeds take the lead when a Villa play was down injured only for the Yorkshire outfit to allow them to equalize unchallenged. It means that they will be playing away in the second-leg of the play-off semi-finals though it is unconfirmed if their opponents will be Leeds or West Brom.
At Villa Park, the Midlands outfit have won each of their last five and have lost just one of the previous nine. Games at this ground do feature goals with 12 of their last 14 going over 2.5 and eight of these going over 3.5. Tammy Abraham has netted in two of his last three appearances here while Conor Hourihane has three in five.
Norwich needs one more point to be certain of ending the season as champions after they confirmed promotion last time out with a 2-1 defeat of Blackburn. The result puts them on 91 points with Sheffield United on 88 but the Blades have a two better goal-difference. The East Anglian side have made the right noises about wanting to win the title but it remains to be seen how their celebrations have impacted them.
Away from Carrow Road, the Canaries are unbeaten in their last six winning four of these and losing just one of their last 19. No side has scored more goals on the road this campaign in the Championship than the 40 City have managed. Teemu Pukki has found the back of the net seven times in his last eights on his travels.
It is hard to gauge motivations levels here with two sides who have achieved all that they could have done a month back. The hosts are preparing for the end of season play-offs while the visitors need a point to secure the Championship title. Backing the game to end in a draw makes the most sense as a point will keep the 12-game unbeaten run going for Villa while it will also allow the Canaries to lift the trophy.
The style of the game could go either way as both teams are relaxed and we could get an open expansive match or a polite friendly pre-season style pass around. The latter was on display when the Midlands outfit met Leeds on Sunday and with the odds inflated on over 2.5 goals we think going under might be the value selection.
