Aston Villa vs Newcastle Predictions

Aston Villa are teetering on the edge of the relegation zone at this early stage of the season. Although, at times, they have shown flashes that they are capable of remaining in the top tier this term, there have been some rather poor displays as well. Overall, you’d have to expect that boss Dean Smith will be fairly happy with the way his side have performed so far, but they will have to progress if they’re to steer clear of the bottom three.

Despite picking up important wins over both Brighton & Hove Albion and Norwich City, it’s against the stronger teams in the league where the Villains have struggled of late. A 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, followed by 2-1 losses to league leaders Liverpool and Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers. You can back them to bounce back with three points here at odds of 23/20 with BetVictor.

Newcastle United have installed Steve Bruce in charge as manager since Rafa Benitez left the club for the Chinese Super League. The 58 year old spent two years in charge at Villa Park before being replaced by Dean Smith last season and although he has been gracious ahead of the tie, you have to expect that he’ll be desperate to get one over his former employees in front of the TV cameras on Monday night.

So far, Bruce has done a solid job at St James’ Park, despite the fans’ protests at his arrival. As things stand, the Magpies sit in 14th place in the table and they’ve picked up some surprising but impressive results of late, losing just one of their last five games and earning wins over Manchester United, West Ham and Bournemouth on that run. You can back them to pick up another three points here at 13/5 with William Hill.

We’re backing some goals in this one. Newcastle have started to play on the front foot a little more in recent weeks and that has led to both teams scoring in their last three Premier League outings. Both teams have found the net meanwhile in all but one of the last nine games in all competitions involving Aston Villa, so we’re liking the look of odds of 8/11 with William Hill for the same to happen again on Monday night.

We can’t pick a winner between these two sides at the moment though. Both teams are capable of beating anyone in the league on their day, but both are unpredictable and are more likely to be struggling at the bottom of the table than fighting at the top come the end of the season. Four of their last six meetings have ended level so we’re backing another draw in this one at odds of 5/2 with Unibet.
