Aston Villa v West Brom Match Preview

Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back from defeat on Wednesday night as Dean Smith and his team went down 1-0 at his old club Brentford. The result means they now sit in tenth place seven points from Middlesbrough in sixth.

At Villa Park, the Midlands outfit are unbeaten in their last four with three of these finishing all-square. Each of the last eight at this ground have seen both teams score and gone over 2.5 goals.

West Brom stretched their unbeaten run to two matches and just one defeat in five with a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in midweek. Jacob Murphy and Jay Rodriguez got a goal each but it saw them lose ground on the top two and they are now fourth with six points between them and Norwich in second.

Away from the Hawthorns, the Baggies are flying with six victories from their last eight and wins in each of their last two. Jay Rodriguez has two in his last three on the road while Dwight Gayle has four in four.

Aston Villa are slight favourites to win the game and given their home form they are hard to oppose though they are also playing a side who are flying on the road as they use their attacking talents to counter-attack-. The draw seems the best option of three through I think better value can be found elsewhere.

Goals looks the order of the day here between two sides who have a wealth of attacking options. The problem is that bookmakers are aware of this and have adjusted the prices to reflect this. A couple of players to score at any time is probably the best way into this market with Conor Hourihane and Jacob Murphy the selections. Hourihane does not score as many as he should but he always carries a threat and can take advantage of the space allowed by West Brom here. Murphy meanwhile has already netted once since his loan move from Newcastle and was a class act at this level in his previous spell at Norwich.
