Arsenal vs Sheffield United Match Preview
Only Liverpool and Manchester City, both 2-0 over the festive period, have beaten Sheffield United away from home this season – and so they look worth keeping on side at Arsenal.
The deeper we get into the season, the more the unlikely prospect of Sheffield United playing European football next term starts to look realistic. Sixth in the Premier League table in their first season after promotion, the Blades have a favourable run of fixtures through February up to mid-March that should tell us plenty about where they will finish up this campaign.
They have been a real surprise package for the top-flight clubs not used to facing their distinctive style and the away form has been particularly impressive, United having the third best defensive record on the road.
That will stand them in good stead at Arsenal, who have their captain and main source of goals, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, suspended after he was sent off in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.
The Gunners have won their last two home games to nil under manager Mikel Arteta, but they were far from impressive against Leeds in the FA Cup and previously caught Manchester United on one of their off-days.
We think it is still too early to say that Arsenal have definitively turned the corner with Arteta in charge and having lost once to Sheffield United this season, and with Aubameyang in the stands here, there could be more dropped points in store for the mid-table North Londoners.
