Arsenal vs Rennes Match Preview
Arsenal host Rennes for their Europa League clash with a very disappointing 3-1 loss suffered in the first leg, where they had a great start but saw Papastathopoulos sent off and struggled with ten men – conceding three goals as Bourigeaud immediately converted, Nacho Monreal found his own net and Ismaila Sarr made it a convincing win for the French rivals.
Gunners have since bounced back with a great 2-0 win over Manchester United and Unai Emery will now hope his men can build on the success, looking for the sixth home win in a row. They’ve based success across competitions on such performances at Emirates and we should now see them very motivated to impress once again.
Rennes have a lot to be happy at this point but also have a lot to prove in London, as they extended a five-match unbeaten streak mainly for solid performances at home ground beating Orleans (2-0), Arsenal (3-1), and Caen (3-1) in three outings since late February.
Red and Blacks have thus been scoring goals on the regular but we’ve seen them struggling for such consistency on the road, which could prove costly. They’ve seen three losses in five trips across competitions and some of those came rather comfortably, which will obviously be more worrying for Julien Stephan as he looks to capitalize on the great first-leg result.
Nonetheless, we don’t see them doing so and we’ll still stick our necks out for Arsenal to make their way to the Quarter-finals, backing them to Qualify at 11/10 with William Hill – which has been rated value by many in the know.
We feel Gunners will have to base such success on a solid defensive display on Thursday and with that in mind, we’re also backing them to keep a clean sheet at 19/20 with William Hill. This would be their fourth clean sheet in five home outings and looks like a solid approach by itself.
