AIK travel to Yerevan for their 1st Qualifying Round Champions League clash on Tuesday on the back of a 0-1 win at Kalmar, where they put on another rock-solid display at the back and a single goal from Chinedo Obasi proved enough to snatch all three points and return to the winning ways.
Gnaget have thus ended a streak of two games without a win after suffering a 0-2 home loss to Norrkoping (0-2) and holding Malmo to a goalless draw. Interestingly, they’ve been more confident away from home lately, bagging three wins and a draw on last four trips, and Rikard Norling will want to build on the streak.
Ararat-Armenia are, on the other hand, only kick-starting their campaign with the Tuesday’s clash. They’ve held Desna (0-0) to a draw and beaten Gomel (0-3) in two pre-season friendlies keeping up their solid defensive displays from late last season, which brought the league title just a point clear of 2nd placed Pyunik.
Indeed, they’ve finished the campaign with four consecutive wins and kept three clean sheets along the way. The club founded in 2017 bagged their first league title and have a chance to impress – but we feel their lack of experience as well as the competitive edge will hold them back against the Swedish rivals.
We will thus back AIK to earn a narrow advantage in the first leg and backing them to win feels like a banker bet at 8/11 with 22bet, despite Ararat-Armenia boasting great team spirits and proving a tough nut to crack on many occasions.
