Atletico Madrid return to La Liga after the International break with a trip to Vitoria-Gasteiz, as they look to snatch the points at Deportivo Alaves and return to the winning ways after a disappointing Champions League exit in the hands of Juventus (3-0) and a narrow 2-0 loss at Athletic Bilbao.

Atleti have thus only seen a five-match winning streak across competitions ended and Diego Simeone will now be desperate to use the break to a good cause, lifting his men’s team spirits in a chase to close the gap to the pace-setters Barcelona – who now sit ten points in the clear.

Deportivo Alaves have plans of their own as they look to challenge a spot in the league’s top 4, where they picked it up through February and March and connected a six-match unbeaten streak with a somewhat more lenient schedule. They now have a lot to prove as they meet Atletico and Sevilla in just days and results here could determine a lot for Abelardo’s men.

Babazorros beat Huesca (1-3) ahead of the break and built on March results against Villarreal (1-2 win on the road) and Eibar (1-1 draw at home), which should have them very confident once again despite a much stronger challenge looming now. They have seen struggles to regularly score goals at Mendizorroza lately, though, and this could be more worrying.

Indeed, Atletico Madrid are still the best defence in Spain and we now hope to see them bounce on the back of another such performance, as we stick with them to cause an upset and snatch all three points at an enticing 4/5 with William Hill.
