Ajax vs Waalwijk Match Preview
Ajax host struggling Waalwijk for their Matchday 23 clash on Sunday in a great mood after beating Vitesse (0-3) midway through the week and bagging their eighth win in nine outings across competitions, looking to keep it up and travel to Spain for their Europa League clash at Getafe in good spirits.
De Godenzonen have been rock-solid at the back and while they slipped up at Groningen (2-1) along the way, we’ve seen them keep three clean sheets in four outings since late January. We now hope to see a rock-solid defensive line once again and we feel the visitors will have a hard time getting anything from their trip to Johan Cruijff Arena.
Waalwijk sit rock-bottomed with just 12 points to their name after 22 outings and just four of those came on the road, which will be just as worrying. They come into the match after sharing the spoils in a goalless draw against PEC Zwolle last week and getting a similar result here would be a great feat.
However, they’re in for much more of a challenge and struggles to score goals on the regular don’t feel as promising. The visitors failed to find the net on any of their last three trips, seeing losses at Servette (1-0), ADO Den Haag (2-0), and AZ (4-0) since early January.
It’s thus tough to see them do any better in Amsterdam and we’ll now back Ajax to bag the points with confidence even if Erik ten Hag sends out a rotated line-up, as we go for a Home win to Nil as a banker bet at 8/13 with William Hill.
Still, with fatigue playing a role and surely some of the main stars rested for their Europa League clash next week, we don’t feel Ajax will be able to thrash Waalwijk. We’ll thus also go for Ajax to score Under 3.5 Goals FT at 11/10 with bet365, which does seem like value at this point.
