AFC Wimbledon vs Oxford Match Preview
Oxford beat Wycombe (1-0) and Lincoln (1-0) over the past seven days, ending a four-match winless streak across competitions and lifting their team spirits ahead of the trip to AFC Wimbledon for their Matchday 24 clash on Sunday. They’ve been very solid at the back and first-half goals proved enough for all three points but Karl Robinson still has to find a way to build on the performances when away from home.
Indeed, the U’s saw losses at Exeter (on penalties after a goalless draw) in EFL Trophy and dropped all three points at struggling MK Dons (1-0), failing to find the net on any of the two occasions. They haven’t seen an away loss in almost three months beforehand and will now have to look for a quick fix.
AFC Wimbledon have plans of their own, though, and come into the match on the back of an important Boxing Day win at Bristol Rovers (1-2), where Forss and Pigott found the net in the last 20 minutes to complete a comeback. They escaped the immediate danger zone and will now surely be very motivated to build towards the mid-table.
Dons have been very tough to beat at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, which promises a great challenge too. They bagged five wins and two draws in seven home outings since early October, beating Rochdale (3-2), Leyton Orient (3-0), Portsmouth (1-0), Gillingham (1-0), and Doncaster (2-1) along the way.
We now hope to see them in good shape once again and we’ll go for Wimbledon to hold off the visitors, where an enticing Double Chance – Home win or Draw comes at Evens with William Hill and looks like the best approach to the fixture.
We should still be in for a very narrow occasion and we feel their ability to keep it together at the back will play a great role in getting such a result. We’re thus also going for a low-scoring occasion with Under 2.5 Goals FT, which can be backed at Evens with bet365.
