Accrington vs Ipswich Match Preview

Ipswich Town travel to Accrington for their Matchday 14 clash on Sunday in great shape, topping the League One table with 27 points to their name and a game in hand to all the top chasers – where Wycombe lead the pack with 23 points. They come with a five-match winning streak behind them and promise a great challenge at the Wham Stadium as well.

Indeed, Tractor Boys saw some very narrow clashes along the way but still beat MK Dons (0-1), Gillingham (0-1), Tranmere (4-1), and Fleetwood (0-1) since mid-September only to top it with a great EFL Trophy win over the Gills (4-0) last time out. Paul Lambert will now hope to see his men return in great shape and he should have no trouble lifting their spirits here.

Accrington Stanley, on the other hand, sit just outside the relegation zone and could see themselves drop into it this weekend already. They’ve proven themselves a tougher side to beat lately but still saw their five-match unbeaten streak ended by Rochdale (2-1) last week, where Joe Pritchard pulled one back early in the second half but it proved nothing but a consolation.

Stanley have largely struggled for consistency at home ground despite scoring goals on the regular and this has been costly. They’ve seen Sunderland (1-3 loss), Blackpool (1-1 draw), and Oxford (2-2 draw) all snatch points since mid-September and it’s tough to see them do more against the in-form visitors now.

We will thus stick with Ipswich to extend their winning streak in Accrington, going for an Away win at 23/20 with bet365 which feels overpriced despite a strong challenge we certainly expect from John Coleman’s men.

We have seen Ipswich keep clean sheets on all of their last four trips but we don’t really feel they can do the same at the Wham Stadium.
