AC Milan vs Sassuolo Match Preview
AC Milan are looking to return to the top table of European football this season as they go in chase of a top four finish. As one of Europe’s most established, well-supported and decorated clubs, the lack of Champions League action over the last few seasons will no doubt have frustrated the San Siro faithful but in the current campaign they do sit in the coveted top four spots but with a cushion of just one point over fifth-placed Roma as things stand.
Recent form has been strong for the Rossoneri and they come into this game on the back of an eight game unbeaten run in all competitions. Manager Gennaro Gattuso was known for his steeliness in his playing days and he has brought a certain aspect of play to this current crop of Milan players. They ran out 1-4 winners in the reverse fixture against Sassuolo at the MAPEI Stadium earlier in the season and they should win out again here at 9/20 with Bet365.
Sassuolo’s rise through the Italian football pyramid in recent years has been impressive and well documented. Allowing managers like Massimiliano Allegri and Eusebio di Francesco to build their reputations, the Green and Blacks rose through the divisions and into the top tier for the first time in their long history in 2013 and they even managed to qualify for the Europa League two seasons ago before eventually crashing out in the group stages.
With the likes of Milan, Inter and Lazio improving to their former glories, Sassuolo have struggled to continue competing at the top end of the division but they still look set for another comfortable mid-table finish this season. Coming into this fixture, Roberto de Zebri’s men have picked up just one win in their last ten outings in all competitions and the bookmakers don’t fancy them to put an end to that poor form here, hence odds of 13/2 with William Hill.
We’re backing the home win here and it should be a relatively easy afternoon for the Milan backline. With Alessio Romagnoli and Gianluigi Donnarumma in their ranks, it’s hardly surprising that the Rossoneri have kept three clean sheets in their last four games and in this fixture they they come up against a Sassuolo attack that has managed just one goal in it’s last three outings. That’s why we’re backing the home win to nil here at 6/4 with Bet365.
Is there a more in-form striker that Krzysztof Piatek in Europe right now? The Polish forward joined Genoa in the summer for just €4m but was sold to Milan this January for a fee of €36m after racking up 19 goals in just 21 appearances for il Grifone and he’s carried that unstoppable form into life with his new club too, smashing in seven goals in seven games so far. We’re backing him to open the scoring in this game at 9/4 with William Hill.
