AC Milan vs Lazio Match Preview
AC Milan currently find themselves in a pulsating race for a top four finish in Serie A. The Rossoneri have slipped behind their city rivals Internazionale and into fourth place, which they currently occupy on goal difference, but Atalanta, Roma, Torino and Lazio all sit within four points of them with just five games remaining, meaning that a return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2013/2014 season hangs in the balance at the moment.
For this game attention will switch to the cup though, which may be just as well given recent struggles for form in the league. Gennaro Gattuso’s men have won just one of their last six games in Serie A, losing out to Inter, Juventus and Sampdoria in that run. With this tie in the balance following a goalless tie in Rome back in February, can Milan secure the win they need here at odds of 13/8 with BetVictor.
Lazio are one of the teams trying to chase down Milan for a top four spot in Serie A this season. Biancocelesti have not made it to the group stages of the Champions League for over ten years now, but finishing in the qualification spots is out of their hands at the moment as they sit four points away from Milan down in eighth position, but with five games remaining they still have the opportunities to pull it off.
Le Aquile have had some success in this competition in recent years, reaching the final three times in the last six seasons and winning one of those finals and after preventing AC Milan from scoring any away goals in the first leg they’ll feel capable of doing the same again here. Recent form hasn’t been great for Simone Inzaghi’s men though and they’ve managed just one victory in their last five games, but you can back them for a huge victory here at 7/4 with Bet365.
This could be a nervy affair though. After a goalless draw in the first leg, it’s safe to suspect that the defences may come out on top here and indeed, under 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the last five meetings between these two teams in all competitions. Milan have managed to find the net just four times in their last five games, and Lazio have managed just one more than that in their last five, so we’re backing under 2.5 goals again here at odds of 8/13 with 8/13.
It’s tough to call a winner here. With neither side picking up many points in their recent league games and after a draw in the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico back in February, it may be sensible to back another draw here at 11/5 with William Hill. Two of the last three meetings between the teams have ended in draws and we can’t put forward a strong case for either side to win the match.
