AC Milan enter this derby in much the better form, but only one point separates these local rivals in the Serie A table and this is expected to be a tight contest.

The Rossoneri have taken a real step up this season, on course for comfortably their best Serie A finish in six years, during which time they have always ended up between sixth and 10th.

This time around they sit third, and even second position may not be beyond Gennaro Gattuso’s side if they can maintain their excellent record over the last two months and overhaul Napoli whose main focus may be Europa League glory.

That latter achievement is now beyond Inter because they were knocked out of the continental competition this week by Eintracht Frankfurt via a 1-0 aggregate defeat.

However, this is essentially a home match for the Nerazzurri and they have been otherwise very solid in San Siro this season with only three defeats in 19 matches on the pitch they share with their neighbours.

With both on course for Champions League football next term, a draw would not be a bad result for either team here as they aim to stay clear of fifth-placed Roma and as stalemates are commonplace between them, that is the bet we are placing.
