Aberdeen vs Celtic Match Preview
Celtic face what is likely to be the biggest remaining hurdle between themselves and a historic treble Treble when they take on Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-finals on Sunday.
No club in any major footballing nation has ever won all of the three main domestic trophies in three consecutive seasons – Paris Saint-Germain did it three times in four years between 2015 and 2018 – but that is the remarkable feat Celtic are chasing this term.
They claimed the League Cup in December, are on the brink of retaining the Premiership title and two matches away from the Scottish Cup, with Hearts or Inverness Caledonian Thistle providing the opposition if the Hoops get past Aberdeen.
Neil Lennon’s side could have seven more games to play this season and this is potentially the most important in the quest for that third straight clean sweep because Aberdeen are more dangerous than Hearts and Inverness, with no disrespect meant to those clubs.
The Dons are vying for third position in the Premiership table with Kilmarnock, they drew 0-0 away to Celtic in their latest clash last month and no more than one goal has separated these clubs in any of their last five meetings.
We would not be greatly surprised if Derek McInnes’ team pulled off an upset here, but on balance you have to go with Celtic due to the way they simply dominate Scottish football – although it is expected to be tight once more.
