Man City vs West Ham Tips

Tip 1

Although City aren’t at their most backable right now, the performance of their opposition is enough of a reason to get behind this main bet.

The visitors have a terrible record against the division’s top teams this term, with Chelsea, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and Liverpool twice meeting this handicap line against the Hammers.

West Ham also carry some abysmal head-to-head stats against Man City, last winning inside 90 minutes 22 meetings ago in 2015. That 2-1 victory at the Etihad was their first and only win on this ground, losing 15/17 fixtures since City made the switch from Maine Road in 2003.

Additionally, City cleared this line at the London Stadium in August and have done so in their last five wins inside this fixture.

Tip 2

With star man Jarrod Bowen unavailable, West Ham are going to have to lean on Mohammed Kudus’ contribution even more than previously.

Both Saturday’s opponents and Arsenal are believed to be interested in the Ghanian winger, who has proven himself to be a key player in East London with 17 goals and eight assists since joining the club last season.

Kudus has recently attracted further attention after reaching a milestone in 2024 by becoming the only player in Europe’s top five leagues to complete over 100 take-ons, recording 31 more than Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal in second with 96.

Given City’s defensive woes at the moment, Kudus is the type of player Pep Guardiola and his men will be desperate to avoid running towards their fragile backline, especially someone who has tested the goalkeeper in eight of his last 10 matches and a total of 15 times across this sample.

Man City Form, Team News & Predicted Line-Up

City ended a five-game winless run by closing out 2024 with a 2-0 victory over Leicester at the King Power Stadium, but they’re still far away from any sort of turnaround holding only two wins from their last 14 outings.

Pep Guardiola could have as many as six players out for this match, with Ruben Dias, Rodri and Oscar Bobb all confirmed absentees, who could be joined by Ederson, John Stones and Matheus Nunes.

Man City Predicted XI: Ortega; Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol; Kovacic; Foden, Silva, De Bruyne, Savinho; Haaland.

West Ham Form, Team News & Predicted Line-Up

The Hammers are looking to recover from a brutal 5-0 pummelling at the hands of Liverpool, however, just three wins from the last 10 matches doesn’t bode well for the under-fire Julen Lopetegui.

Those chances are made worse by the recent injury to Jarrod Bowen, who suffered a foot fracture and is ruled out for the foreseeable future. Michail Antonio is also some time away from a comeback despite being discharged from hospital.

West Ham Predicted XI: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Emerson; Soucek, Rodriguez; Kudus, Paqueta, Summerville; Fullkrug.
