Liverpool vs Newcastle Tips

Tip 1

Just under three weeks ago, the Reds comfortably beat Newcastle 2-0 in the dress rehearsal for this year’s League Cup final at Anfield.

That victory to nil was Liverpool’s third time shutting out their opponents in the club’s last four wins, with Southampton the only team to break this four-game sample.

Arne Slot’s men have been by and large the best team in the competition this season, as they have been in the Premier League too, winning 20 matches without conceding across all competitions in the Dutchman’s debut campaign.

Finally, Liverpool also have the huge edge in big game experience too, while the visitors will be sorely missing Anthony Gordon in support of Alexander Isak.

Tip 2

In terms of big game experience, none are better equipped than Mohamed Salah, who was named the Player of the Month on Friday for the seventh time – which is a joint record alongside Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero.

The PL top goalscorer has smashed in 32 goals across all competitions, with five of those occasions producing a brace from the Egyptian, including two at St James’ Park in December’s thrilling 3-3 draw.

He’s scored nine of these in his last eight league games, which includes two braces, and is also supported by Salah being the type of player to pop up in big moments and coming alive when it matters, even when he isn’t playing well.

Liverpool Form, Team News & Predicted Line-Up

The Reds suffered a shattering Champions League last-16 exit to PSG on Tuesday, limiting the Liverpool boss to just a possible double of the Premier League and this trophy in his debut campaign at Anfield.

Arne Slot confirmed on Friday morning that his side would be without the services of Trent Alexander-Arnold on Sunday after picking up an injury midweek. He will be joined on the sidelines by Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley and Tyle Morton through injury.

Liverpool Predicted XI: Kelleher; Quansah, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Gakpo.

Newcastle Form, Team News & Predicted Line-Up

Following the Toon’s 2-1 FA Cup exit to Brighton at the beginning of March, Newcastle responded with a 1-0 win over West Ham in the league on Monday Night Football in preparation for this final.

Eddie Howe has a host of absentees for the trip to Wembley, with Sven Botman, Lewis Hall and Jamaal Lascelles all out injured, and Anthony Gordon’s moment of madness in last weekend’s loss rendering him suspended for this one.

Newcastle Predicted XI: Dubravka; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Barnes.
