Tunisia vs England match predictions

This ought to be a straightforward opener for England as they are hot favourites to beat the North Africans, who have only a smattering of players operating at the highest level of European football.

England manager Gareth Southgate played against Tunisia at the 1998 World Cup and described the victory as “one of the best days of my football life” – and repeating that triumph in Russia would surely be right up there with it.

“It was a fantastic occasion and a game which has stayed in my memory for a good few years,” said Southgate.
“Everyone knows we will be favourites to win this match and we have to live with that.”

Tunisia vs England predicted line-ups

As a good start to the tournament will be so important, the strongest possible England line-up is expected and if everyone is available then Harry Kane will be confident of increasing his international goals tally.

Kane and his current and former Tottenham Hotspur team-mates Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Kyle Walker should comprise more than a third of the England side, while the latter’s Manchester City colleagues Raheem Sterling and John Stones are others Southgate is sure to rely upon.

Tunisia are likely to deploy Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour to mark Kane, while at the other end of the pitch they will hope Youssef Msakni and Saber Khalifa can cause problems for the England defence…and whichever goalkeeper Southgate decides is his No 1 with Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland vying to depose Joe Hart.

Tunisia vs England odds

  3/10 England (BetVictor)
    4/1 Draw (BetVictor)
  10/1 Tunisia (BetVictor)

It would perhaps be unwise to expect an emphatic England victory and something of the nature of the 2-0 success they enjoyed 20 years ago against Tunisia would be considered a very satisfactory start to the campaign.

That correct score can be backed at 5/1 with BetVictor, while other bets well worth considering are England -1 on the handicap at Evens with Ladbrokes, England to win and under 3.5 goals in the match at 10/11 (Ladbrokes) and England to win to nil at Evens (BetVictor).
