Trinidad & Tobago vs United States predictions for their World Cup qualifying match in Couva on Tuesday. Victory for the United States would secure a place at Russia 2018. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.

United States have made hard work of qualifying for the World Cup but should finally get there with a straightforward success against already-eliminated Trinidad & Tobago.

Three automatic spots in Russia are available for North and Central American countries and two of them have been bagged by Mexico and Costa Rica, while the USA will almost certainly join them if they avoid defeat at the Ato Boldon Stadium, named after the former world 200 metres champion sprinter.

If the Americans draw in Trinidad, they could be overhauled by Panama with a seven-goal win at home to Costa Rica. But more realistic for Panama is to hold off Honduras to clinch a play-off against either Australia or Syria.

Trinidad & Tobago, who contested the 2006 World Cup in Germany, have struggled badly in this decisive stage of qualifying during which the only time they have avoided defeat was in a 1-0 home win over Panama.

They lost the reverse fixture against the USA in June to a double from exciting young Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic in Denver, and that result forms part of a terrible head-to-head record the Caribbean side possess over the years against Tuesday’s opponents.

Pulisic was on the mark again for Bruce Arena’s side in their 4-0 win over Panama in Orlando on Friday which put them back on track after a couple of disappointing September matches, with ex-Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore (two) and Bobby Wood of Hamburg the other goalscorers.

The Soca Warriors, meanwhile, are now managed by former Wrexham and Swansea City defender Dennis Lawrence and although none of their current squad plays in England, their star midfielder Kevin Molino plies his trade at a pretty high level in MLS with Minnesota United.

It’s difficult to see the USA being troubled too much in this game and they should record a routine success that clinches their place in Russia.
