Ivory Coast vs Morocco predictions for their final World Cup qualifier in Abidjan on Saturday. Morocco only need a draw to book a place at Russia 2018. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.

Ivory Coast have been made warm favourites to claim the victory they need to reach the 2018 World Cup, but Morocco are fancied to grab a draw and secure their passage to Russia instead.

This is a classic winner-takes-all encounter or, in Morocco’s case, avoiding defeat takes all because they go into the final qualifier one point ahead of their hosts at the top of the Group C table. The other two teams in the section, Gabon and Mali, are already eliminated.

Morocco moved into pole position when they won their latest qualifier 3-0 at home to Gabon thanks to a hat-trick from striker Khalid Boutaib, who plays his club football in Turkey, whereas the Ivory Coast were held 0-0 at home to Mali having previously lost 2-1 when hosting Gabon.

Therefore, the Atlas Lions clearly have the momentum and what is particularly impressive is that they have not conceded a goal in any of their five matches during this qualification phase while putting six past Mali when that team visited Rabat.

As the stats below indicate, there ought to be huge confidence among Herve Renard’s squad because matches between these nations are traditionally low-scoring and the manager will be eager for another watertight performance from the likes of captain Mehdi Benatia, Nabil Dirar etc in the Morocco rearguard.

Although the reverse fixture finished goalless, Ivory Coast coach Marc Wilmots, who has been in charge of Belgium at the last two major tournaments, will hope the Elephants’ attacking strength can make the difference with the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Salomon Kalou, Gervinho, Seydou Doumbia and Jonathan Kodjia to choose from.

On paper, it’s something of a clash of styles, but we cannot get away from just how solid Morocco are defensively and will count on them holding firm to secure a first return to the World Cup finals since 1998 when they were grouped with Brazil and Scotland.

Ivory Coast vs Morocco stats
