Zlatan open to Swedish national team return?

  • Sweden have been turning heads through the Qualifiers even without Zlatan Ibrahimovic
  • Will Sweden’s greatest star in decades make a return ahead of the trip to Russia?
  • Even Zlatan can’t resist speculating about Zlatan
Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Sweden

Sweden made it to World Cup Qualifiers play-offs in a tough group A with France and Netherlands, securing a ticket to the final tournament against Italy (1-0).

They have made it to the final tournament with a shocking European Qualifiers Play-offs win over Italy (1-0 on aggregate), as Azzurri miss their first final tournament in over 50 years. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has said his goodbyes after the EURO 2016 but Janne Andersson’s men still impressed in Qualifiers Group A – making it to the 2nd spot in Group A ahead of the Netherlands.

Swedish attacking line (un)impressive though

Blagult are in Group F in Russia with Germany, Korea Republic, and Mexico, coming off as underdogs at 6/4 to Qualify for the knock-out stages. However, we rarely see many goals from the attacking line. With no lack of respect for Ola Toivonen, who has been leading the line with no major success in Toulouse and the Swedish national team, any team in the World would love to have Ibrahimovic as an option in the final third.

The rumour mill

Many have already been discussing how it would all look if he made a return and with Ibrahimovic making quite a splash in MLS, netting three goals in three appearances for LA Galaxy, the rumours are as lively as ever.

Ibra has now largely added to it and Tweeted “The chance of me playing in the World Cup is skyhöga”. Translated to English as “sky-high”, many were delighted but others have (probably taught by experience with Zlatan) gone on to ask if the word has more than one meaning and if he would even be a starter if this was true. However, the LA Galaxy forward remains silent for now!
