Wolves v Middlesbrough betting preview

Wolves have made some interesting signings over the summer, including that of new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Given that the Portuguese gaffer's last two jobs have been with Valencia and Porto, some may considering his move to Molineux to be something of a step down, but 43 year old clearly sees the potential for growth at the Midlands club.

Midfielder Ruben Neves, already a Portuguese international at just 20 years old, has to be considered a serious coup and John Ruddy and Ryan Bennett, who both join on free transfers from Norwich City, add a little more Championship experience to the squad. Santo will be desperate to prove his worth to the Molineux faithful by kicking off the campaign with a win here at 13/8 with BetVictor.

Middlesbrough's attempt at remaining in the Premier League last season was ultimately fruitless. Aitor Karanka was sacked half way through the campaign and his temporary replacement, Steve Agnew, was unable to arrest the slide. As such, they too kick off the new campaign with a new face in the dugout in the shape of ex-Leeds and Swansea man Garry Monk.

Monk has moved quickly to add his own stamp to the squad and additions like Jonathan Howson, Darren Randolph and Britt Assombalonga look like quality ones at this level. After a mixed bag of a pre-season and a fall-out with the local newspaper, Monk also needs to ensure he gets the competitive campaign off to the best possible start with a win here at 15/8 with William Hill.

Although Assombalonga along with further new signings Martin Braithwaite and Ashley Fletcher, will provide more firepower to this Boro attack, it could take some time for Monk's new frontline to gel. Going forward was where Boro seriously struggled in the last campaign as they scored just 27 goals in 38 matches, the worst return for any club in the top tier.

Former Norwich City stopper Ruddy has shown his quality at this level several times in the past and his ex-Canaries team-mate Bennett will slot into a stoic Wolves defence in front of him that includes Danny Batth and Matt Doherty. We thinks the hosts will have too much at the back for a Boro frontline still getting to grips with each other's games. Back the home win to nil at 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
