Tottenham v Stoke betting preview

Tottenham Hotspur are struggling to live up to the high standards they've set themselves in the last two seasons by finishing in the top three. Whilst the switch to Wembley Stadium was always going to cause problems at times this season, Mauricio Pochettino will be more concerned with their form away from home in recent weeks - they've managed to take just one point from the last available 12 on the road, going down in disappointing defeats to rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.

Despite this dip in form, the Lilywhites can at least take heart from not only their performances in the Champions League, where they've beaten giants Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, but also by the fact that they do remain in the hunt for a top four finish at least this season. As things stand, the North Londoners are just four points behind Liverpool, who occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot, but Spurs do need to get their season back on track with a win here at 31/100 with Marathonbet.

Stoke City look like standard mid-table fodder in the Premier League once again this season. The club can be happy with the fact that their reputation as the Premier League's bruisers appears to have subsided under the guidance of Mark Hughes in recent years, but the Welshman hasn't really been able to help them kick onto the next gear as some fans may have hoped for, particularly with some big name players such as Xherdan Shaqiri and Bojan Krkic moving to the bet365 stadium in this time.

As things stand, the Potters sit in 13th position in the league after coming from behind to beat bottom club Swansea City 2-1 in front of their own fans last week. At home, the Staffordshire club haven't performed too badly, but most of the problems they have faced this season have come on the road, with just one surprise win at Watford to their name in their away games so far this season. They've lost their last three games to Spurs by a 4-0 scoreline but you can back them to exact revenge here at 2/7 with Coral.

Although Tottenham have kept clean sheets in their last three matches against Stoke, we can see the visitors getting on the scoresheet this weekend. The Potters have only failed to score on one occasion in their last eight outings in all competitions and without Toby Alderweireld, Spurs do not look their usual selves defensively at the moment and with Davinson Sanchez suspended, those problems are only likely to worsen in this game. The hosts should bounce back to form, but we're on the home win and both teams to score bet at 15/8 with William Hill.

Harry Kane has secured the Premier League golden boot in the last two seasons and he's been the division's most consistent striker in that time. Even as the Lilywhites flounder in the league at the moment, the 24 year old has racked up 10 goals in 14 league appearances this season, plus a further six goals in five Champions League outings. The England man can be Spurs' saviour this season and we're backing him to open to scoring here at odds of 11/5 with Ladbrokes.

Recommended bets:
Home win and BTTS @ 15/8 with William Hill
Harry Kane to score first @ 11/5 with Ladbrokes
