St Johnstone vs Rangers betting tips

These teams are closely matched on this season’s form and Rangers look well worth opposing at short odds, with the draw appealing as much better value.

Third place in the Scottish Premiership table is up for grabs in this Friday the 13th encounter as top-flight club football returns after the season’s second international break.

And something may have to give in Perth as St Johnstone put their unbeaten home league record on the line against a Rangers side who have yet to be defeated on their domestic travels.

Rangers were also in Friday night action when they last played, as a fortnight ago they went to Hamilton and won 4-1 with their first two goals coming from the somewhat surprising source of on-loan Cardiff City left-back Declan John.

That result put Pedro Caixinha’s side back on track after they had lost the opening Old Firm match of the campaign 2-0 at home six days earlier, highlighting that the Gers still have plenty of catching up to do on their arch-rivals Celtic.

Now it is St Johnstone who need to bounce back because they lost their most recent game 3-0 at Aberdeen to an Adam Rooney hat-trick, making it back-to-back losses on the road for Tommy Wright’s men.

But Saints are much more solid at home and after a couple of hiccups on their own pitch at the start of the season in Europe and the League Cup, they have collected 10 points from a possible 12 in the league at McDiarmid Park.

The only reason for Rangers being such short odds here is their bigger reputation and fan base, which means the bookmakers will rack up larger liabilities on them, but for the neutrals the draw has to be the bet with so little between the teams on what they have achieved so far this term.

St Johnstone vs Rangers stats
