Sheffield United v Bristol City betting preview

Sheffield United clearly took some momentum from their League One winning campaign into the early stages of this Championship season. The Blades were always considered too big of a club to flounder in the third division for too long and once boyhood fan Chris Wilder took the job in the hotseat, they have been enjoying a near-continuous rise, firstly to the League One title and now to the loftier positions of the second tier as they currently sit in fourth place with 20 games gone.

However, Wilder is going to have to negotiate a sticky period for his side and this Friday night clash against a fellow promotion rival will be particularly difficult after his side's confidence has no doubt been dented by a three game winless run. In their last three outings, the South Yorkshire outfit have been beaten by London sides Fulham and Millwall and been held to a draw by struggling Birmingham City. You can back them to bounce back with three points here at 5/4 with William Hill.

Bristol City are reaping the benefits of their decision to stick with Lee Johnson through a tough period last season. At one point, the former Barnsley and Oldham boss appeared to be on his way out of the club, but after staving off relegation, the Robins now find themselves in a real hunt for a first ever promotion to the Premier League and they currently sit in third place, ahead of their Friday night opponents Sheffield United on goal difference with both sides on 37 points as things stand.

A disappointing defeat to Preston North End at Ashton Gate a couple of weeks ago appeared to have put an end to the South-West club's magnificent spell of recent form, but it's fair to say they've bounced straight back with consecutive victories over recently relegated duo Hull City and Middlesbrough in the following two match and they can head north for this fixture brimming with confidence as they look to pick up another vital away victory at odds of 5/2 with Marathonbet.

We're anticipating goals galore in this fixture though. Both sides have built their promotion assaults so far on attack-minded play and it's well worth noting that both teams have scored in seven of Sheffield United's last eight outings, with both scoring in six of Bristol City's last eight. With the attacking talent on show from the likes of Leon Clarke, Billy Sharp and Bobby Reid, both teams to score in this clash seems like a banker to kick off your weekend coupon at 4/6 with Betfred.

That man Clarke has endured something of a rollercoaster career, scoring goals in prolific spells with the likes of Bury and Coventry, he's endured leaner periods at clubs such as QPR and Wolves. After a relatively quiet first season at Bramall Lane, he's been the Blades' star man in attack this term, smashing in 13 goals in 17 league appearances including nine in his last five. Odds of 11/8 with BetVictor look like great value for the 32 year old to find the net again in this game.

Recommended bets:
Both teams to score @ 4/6 with Betfred
Leon Clarke to score at any time @ 11/8 with BetVictor
