Sheffield United v Brentford betting preview

Sheffield United are riding on the crest of a wave at the moment. The Blades had been floundering in League One for quite some time and despite being the favourites for the title in the third tier year on year, they only finally managed to win promotion last season, but they did so in style, racing the top spot and topping the table at a canter with Chris Wilder at the helm.

It's perhaps not always wise to read into pre-season results but if you were to do so, you'd see that the South Yorkshire side have seemingly taken some momentum from that campaign into the new one as they've recorded five victories from five warm-up games, with two coming against Stoke City and Malaga. With the home advantage, United are 6/5 favourites with BetVictor.

Brentford enjoyed an altogether more relaxed season last time around. After going through three managers in the 2015/2016 campaign and flirting with relegation at times, the Bees looked comfortable throughout last season and managed to finish in tenth place, with boss Dean Smith enjoying a progressive campaign despite the sale of some key players including star striker Scott Hogan in January.

The money received from the Hogan transfer to Aston Villa has been re-invested into the attacking positions this summer with youngsters Ollie Watkins and Neal Maupay arriving from Exeter City and Saint Etienne respectively, whilst the club's extensive scouting network has led to them bringing in some more unknown quantities from the continent. The away win is 5/2 with bet365.

Although friendly results have to be taken with a pinch of salt, it's clear that this Brentford side will continue in attack nature this year as both teams have scored in all of their friendlies this summer. In the likes of Jota, Maupay and Lasse Vibe, they possess real quality in attack. We can't see the visitors drawing a blank, but in front of their own fans we fully expect Sheffield United to kick off the season with a win. Sheffield United to win and both teams to score is priced at 16/5 with Paddy Power

Lifelong Blades fan Billy Sharp was the star man in his side's title-winning campaign last time out. The former Leeds and Southampton man racked up no fewer than 30 goals in his 46 league appearances and he'll be desperate to hit the ground running once again in the new campaign. He has experience of playing at this level in the past and he's our anytime scorer pick at 3/2 with Sky Bet.
