Nottingham Forest v Aston Villa betting preview

Nottingham Forest are one of several clubs in the bottom half of the Championship that will be disappointed with how this season has gone so far. Pre-season hopes will have been of a play-off push at the very least but a lack of consistency has certainly held the Midlands club back so far and as such, it came as no surprise to anyone when Mark Warburton was sacked recently, with Gary Brazil yet again taking over in a caretaker capacity for the time being.

The Tricky Trees held play-off chasing Leeds United for a goalless draw last time out and although not the most disappointing result of late, it means their winless run in the Championship has now stretched to five games. If this poor form continues they may start casting nervous glances towards the lower reaches of the division but Brazil will be hoping his charges can rally and pick up three important home points in this game at odds of 49/20 with Marathonbet.

Aston Villa were many pundits' favourites to win the Championship title this season and although their fellows Midlands outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to secure the top spot, the Villains are now within the cluster of teams chasing the second automatic promotion spot. What's more, they possess a manager who knows what it takes to win promotion from this division in former Hull City and Birmingham City man, Steve Bruce.

Although they clearly possess one of the strongest squads in the division, the Villains have also been let down by a lack of consistency so far this season, but they make the trip to the City Ground following back-to-back wins over high-flying Middlesbrough and Bristol City, plus they have already overcome Forest once this season, winning the reverse fixture 2-1 at Villa Park back in September. The away win is available at odds of 6/4 with BetVictor.

With Forest struggling at the moment and low on confidence, we can see them facing some problems in trying to overcome a tight Villa backline that includes the experienced John Terry and has kept back-to-back clean sheets in the league ahead of this fixture. Forest have drawn blanks in their last three consecutive Championship outings, so an away win to nil at odds of 3/1 looks too good to miss at Ladbrokes, given Steve Bruce's side's recent form.

Ex-Brentford man Scott Hogan returned to the scoresheet in that 5-0 win over Bristol City last time out. The Aston Villa forward has endured fitness issues throughout his first 12 months at Villa Park, but after finally opening his account for the season in that victory the 25 year old will be hoping to get some more minutes under his belt here and another goal. He's our anytime scorer pick as he looks to start replicating the form he showed to convince Villa to part with over £10m for his services last January.

Recommended bets:
Away win to nil @ 3/1 with Ladbrokes
Scott Hogan to score at any time @ 2/1 with Paddy Power
