Newcastle United vs Aston Villa betting tips
Two clubs relegated from the Premier League last season are experiencing contrasting seasons and Aston Villa desperately need to stop the rot when they visit Tyneside.
While Newcastle United are on course to bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt, potentially as winners of the Championship, Villa are on a dreadful run despite the considerable investment in players made by their new owner Dr Tony Xia.
A huge revamp of the Villa squad was needed and Xia has backed managers Roberto di Matteo last summer and Steve Bruce in January, spending somewhere around £50million in total while recouping much of that, but by no means all, in player sales.
But although there was a strong initial impact after Bruce replaced the sacked Di Matteo in October, things have subsequently gone downhill and Villa have lost seven of their last eight league and cup matches with their latest victory coming on Boxing Day.

Although Newcastle are understandably red-hot favourites for this game, they are by no means invincible against even the lower-ranked Championship clubs and QPR gained a point at St James’ Park recently while Rafael Benitez’s side lost against relegation-threatened Blackburn.
In their last game, the Magpies needed a late equaliser to salvage a point at Norwich and it will be a concern for Benitez that the pack are closing in as the season approaches its business end with Newcastle and Brighton no longer looking the promotion certainties they did.
It must be a worry for Bruce that his side are the lowest scorers in the Championship away from home and not completely safe from a second consecutive relegation, but we will take a chance at rewarding odds that they can get their act together and thwart Newcastle from gaining an important victory.
