Manchester United v Manchester City Premier League predictions, betting tips and match preview here. The Citizens could break the Premier League record for consecutive wins with an away victory over their arch rivals this weekend.

Man Utd v Man City match stats

  • Manchester United have won their ten home Premier League matches so far this season
  • City equalled the record for consecutive Premier League wins by beating West Ham last Sunday
  • The Citizens have managed just one win in their last five matches against their arch rivals

Man Utd v Man City betting preview

Manchester United are looking to keep the pressure on their arch rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table by securing a much-needed victory in this game. The Citizens currently sit eight points clear at the top of the table and they equalled the Premier League record for consecutive victories last Sunday as they came from a goal down to overcome West Ham United to stretch their winning run to thirteen league games, after a dramatic victory over Southampton just days earlier thanks to a last-gasp winner from Raheem Sterling.

The Red Devils could easily have fallen even further behind their rivals last weekend, but managed to run out 1-3 winners in a thrilling match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, with Jesse Lingard finding the net twice. Unfortunately for boss Jose Mourinho however, key midfield man Paul Pogba was dismissed for a foul on Hector Bellerin and will miss this match through suspension, and the side struggled in periods earlier this season when the French international was ruled out through injury.

Although this rivalry is steeped in tradition and locality, the arrival of Pep Guardiola to the Etihad Stadium and Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford only added further spark last season and in the first meeting between the two clubs following those respective appointments, the Citizens ran out 1-2 winners at Old Trafford last season. That however, has been their only victory in the last five meetings between the two sides in all competitions and the Red Devils would get their revenge just weeks later with a 1-0 victory in the EFL Cup.

Where Manchester United fans are concerned, their side's home form has been terrific so far this season and they've managed ten wins from ten games at Old Trafford in all competitions, including impressive victories over Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Benfica. Even without Pogba, they have the quality to cause the league leaders problems and the expectant home crowd will be hoping their side can cut the gap between these two sides with a vitally important three points here at 12/5 with Paddy Power.

That however, will be easier said than done for Jose Mourinho's men. Guardiola has often got the better of his arch-rival and his side are playing with a real freedom and confidence at the moment, so much so that some pundits even criticised their displays against Southampton and West Ham, despite the side picking up six vital points in those games. On paper and in terms of league position, the Blues are the better of the two sides and that's why they're favourites to take the victory at odds of 129/100 with Marathonbet

Romelu Lukaku's problems in front of goal have been well documented against the so-called top six, but United aren't overly reliant on the Belgian striker and players like Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and the in-form Lingard are all likely to cause the visitors problems in this game. City have only kept one clean sheet in their last six matches, despite picking up the victory in each and every one of those games and they should have more than enough firepower to match the hosts through Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero. The away win and both teams to score bet looks good to us at 16/5 with Ladbrokes.

Outshining both Jesus and Aguero in the goalscoring ranks so far this season however is English winger Raheem Sterling. The former Liverpool man has been criticised for his inconsistency in the past, but Guardiola appears to be getting the best out of the 22 year old this season and he's repaid his boss with some vital goals, including winning goals in victories over Southampton and Huddersfield. Sterling has now racked up no fewer than 13 goals in all competitions so we're pleasantly surprised to see him out at 5/2 with Betfred to get on the scoresheet at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Recommended bets:
Man City to win and BTTS @ 16/5 with Ladbrokes
Raheem Sterling to score at any time @ 5/2 with Betfred
