  • Both matches between these two teams finished 1-1 in the 2016/2017 season

Manchester United v Everton betting preview

Manchester United have made a fine start to the Premier League campaign and are living up to their pre-season billing as genuine title contenders after winning two major trophies last term. The Red Devils kicked off with three consecutive victories over West Ham United, Swansea City and Leicester City without even conceding a goal, although they were held to a 2-2 away draw in their last league outing to Mark Hughes' Stoke City.

Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho was clearly unhappy with that result at the Britannia Stadium last weekend, but he will have been much more pleased with his side's improved performance in the Champions League in midweek as they eased to a comfortable 3-0 victory over FC Basel. With confidence restored after that win, the hosts are unsurprisingly odds-on favourites for a victory here at odds of 2/5 with Ladbrokes.

Everton's squad has undergone some serious restructuring over the summer as Ronald Koeman allowed Romelu Lukaku to join Sunday's opponents Manchester United and invested the funds into the signings of several players including the likes of Davy Klaassen, Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane, whilst former England captain Wayne Rooney also returned to Goodison Park from Old Trafford as part of the Lukaku deal.

It hasn't been the best of starts to the campaign for the Toffees though as they've picked up just one win so far this term over Stoke, going down in defeats to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur and drawing with Manchester City. The fixtures man hasn't been kind to the Merseyside club in the early stages of this season and this will be another tough fixture for them, hence why they're out at 9/1 to win this one with Paddy Power.

In the four wins they've enjoyed in all competitions so far this term, United have managed to win by more than one goal. Everton meanwhile have looked shaky defensively in their last two games, conceding twice to Chelsea and three time to Tottenham Hotspur, although it could've been more in both of those games. With the attacking firepower in this United side, we can see them winning with a one goal handicap at odds of 23/20 with Coral.

Romelu Lukaku was the darling of the Goodison Park faithful over the last few seasons thanks to his terrific goalscoring exploits and he's carried his form in front of goal into his Manchester United career too. The Belgian striker has smashed in four goals in four Premier League matches so far and found the net in the UCL win over Basel on Tuesday too. We're backing him to put his old club to the sword with a brace in this game at 4/1 with bet365.

Recommended bets:
Man Utd to win with a one goal handicap @ 23/20 with Coral
Romelu Lukaku to score two or more goals @ 4/1 with bet365
