Pep Guardiola’s side are taking part in the United States edition of the International Champions Cup and will play their first game in that increasingly prestigious pre-season tournament against their local rivals Manchester United in Houston, Texas.

This will be the first ever Manchester derby played on overseas soil and is the second attempt to set that landmark after last year’s proposed meeting in Beijing was cancelled because of an unplayable pitch.

The match is also another meeting between old rivals Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho, who took charge of their respective Manchester clubs last summer and honours are even between them in England so far with one victory apiece plus a draw.

Guardiola drew first blood when his City side won 2-1 at Old Trafford in the Premier League in September, but the following month Mourinho gained revenge as Juan Mata’s goal knocked United’s local rivals out of the EFL Cup – a competition the Red Devils went on to win.

The most recent Manchester derby was a 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium when United held out despite having Marouane Fellaini sent off in the 84th minute for head-butting Sergio Aguero.

Six days after this next derby, City will take on European champions Real Madrid in Los Angeles having lost 1-0 on aggregate to the Spanish club in the semi-finals of the 2015-16 Champions League.

Their second clash with a Premier League rival comes three days later in Nashville, Tennessee as Tottenham Hotspur provide the opposition with City having failed to win any of the last four meetings between these clubs, losing three of them.

After returning to Europe, City will face a third domestic rival in the shape of West Ham United, with the fixture titled the Super Match taking place in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik on Friday August 4. City won all three meetings with the Hammers last season, including 5-0 away from home in the FA Cup third round.
