The Red Devils go into their second campaign under the guidance of manager Jose Mourinho aiming to add at least one more prestigious trophy to the three pieces of silverware they collected last term – the FA Community Shield, the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

Mourinho had said he wanted as much of the club’s summer transfer business done as possible by the time United jet off on their summer tour of the United States, which begins with a match against LA Galaxy on July 15, but they arrived in California with only defender Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku added to the squad for combined transfer fees of around £110million.

United also started their pre-season fixtures against the Galaxy three years ago, Louis van Gaal’s first campaign in charge, and won 7-0.

Two days later, the opponents will be Real Salt Lake before United’s International Champions Cup commitments begin on July 20 when they play the first ever Manchester derby on foreign soil, facing City in Houston, Texas.

The local rivals were due to meet in Beijing on their respective summer tours last year but the match was cancelled because of an unplayable pitch.

The other two teams United take on before flying back to Europe are Spanish arch-rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona on July 23 and 26 respectively.

Famous for their huge following around the world, United then give their large contingent of fans in two European countries a chance to see them in action at close quarters when returning back across the Atlantic.

Firstly, on July 30, they head to Norway for a friendly match in Oslo against a Valerenga side who are now managed by former Celtic boss Ronny Deila.

Then three days later, Dublin is the destination as Mourinho takes a team over to Ireland for a meeting with Italian club Sampdoria at the Aviva Stadium.

Finally, before the Premier League campaign kicks off on the weekend of August 12-13, United have the chance to get their hands on another trophy when they face European champions Real Madrid – who are also the holders of the UEFA Super Cup – in the Macedonian capital.
