Liverpool v Everton betting preview

Liverpool are in magnificent form at the moment and looking more and more likely to gain at least a top four spot once again under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp this season. The Reds are winning plaudits aplenty for their attacking verve and the likes of Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho are a handful for any top tier defence to cope with, but defensively there are certainly still issues to iron out, as seen by the side's heavy defeats away from home to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Klopp has thus far managed to continue the club's excellent form in derby matches and they've now gone 18 years since tasting defeat against Everton in front of their own supporters and they're unbeaten in 15 derby matches home and away following victories in both fixtures last season. They come into this Sunday afternoon's derby on the back of an eight game unbeaten run in all competitions and high in confidence following a 1-5 mauling of Brighton & Hove Albion last week, so they're odds-on favourites here at 1/3 with William Hill.

Everton's season has already been something of a rollercoaster already thus far. After losing star striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer, the Toffees brought in a raft of new players including Gylffi Sigurdsson and Michael Keane, but boss Ronald Koeman was unable to get the best out of his big money signings and as they loitered dangerously close to the relegation zone, it came as little surprise when the club decided to get rid of the Dutch coach and appoint David Unsworth as interim boss.

Unsworth, whose fine work with the youth teams at Everton has not gone unnoticed, wasn't able to spark much of a turnaround in fortunes, leading to the appointment of former Sunderland and West Ham boss Sam Allardyce. As a result, things are starting to look up and the Blues make the short trip across Stanley Park this weekend on the back of consecutive home wins over Huddersfield and West Ham. Can Allardyce endear himself to the Goodison Park faithful by finally ending their long wait for a derby win at 11/1 with BetVictor?

Even through their poor spell of form, the Toffees managed to maintain a degree of quality going forward and it's notable that they have managed to find the net at least once in each of their last six outings in all competitions. Liverpool's defensive woes have been well documented and the likes of Wayne Rooney and Omar Niasse will cause them problems this weekend. Like the bookies, we still expect the Reds to take the three points, but we're looking at the home win and both teams to score market at 7/4 with Ladbrokes for some real value.

One man who has lit up Anfield this summer has been Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah. The former Chelsea man arrived at Liverpool from Roma for a hefty fee during the summer transfer window with a point to prove following a disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge in his previous Premier League stint, but that point has been well and truly proven with 12 goals in his first 15 league appearances with the Reds. We can't resist backing the 25 year old to get on the scoresheet again in the derby at anytime at odds of 5/6 with Coral.

Recommended bets:
Liverpool to win and both teams to score @ 7/4 with Ladbrokes
Mohamed Salah to score at any time @ 5/6 with Coral
