  • Leeds United began the season with a 2-3 win at Bolton Wanderers last weekend

  • The Yorkshire side have not lost in their last five meetings against PNE, winning four and drawing one

Leeds United v Preston North End betting preview

Leeds United are hoping not to miss Garry Monk too much this year. After missing out on the top six last term, the former Swansea boss decided to leave Elland Road and move to pastures new with Middlesbrough, but the West Yorkshire outfit will look to build on the progress made under the 38 year old under the guidance of their new boss, former Spanish international Thomas Christiansen.

The Whites got their campaign off to the best possible start on Sunday afternoon over the pennines in Lancashire as a rollercoaster game at the Macron Stadium ended in a 2-3 win for the visitors, with Kalvin Phillips bagging two goals either side of a strike from last year's star man Chris Wood. You can back the hosts for another three points here at odds of 21/20 with bet365

Preston North End also begin the campaign under a new manager in the shape of with Alex Neil, who has experience in winning promotion to the Premier League with Norwich City earlier in his career. The Scottish boss was unable to get the Canaries performing to the best of their abilities last year however and eventually left Carrow Road before replacing Sunderland-bound Simon Grayson at Deepdale this summer.

Like Christiansen, Neil got off to a winning start with his new club on the opening weekend of the season as the Lilywhites deservedly earned a 1-0 victory over play-off hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday thanks to a late penalty from Daniel Johnson. Can PNE take momentum from that home win into their first away game of the season and win this battle of the roses at 13/5?

In front of their own fans, with a former Spanish international forward at the helm, Leeds are likely to adopt a more attack-minded approach in this match. Neil always prefers his teams to play on the front foot though and that should lead to an open match with plenty of chances at either end in this fixture. The visitors have some quality attacking players, but the hosts have too much quality and should win out. The home win and both teams to score bet is priced at 15/4.

So far, Leeds have managed to keep hold of their star striker Chris Wood, despite reported interest from the likes of Besiktas and Brighton. The New Zealand international racked up no fewer than 27 league goals in 44 appearances last season and it was no surprise to anyone when he managed to get the new campaign off to a scoring start on Sunday in the win at Bolton. We can't resist backing him for another goal in this game.

Recommended bets:
Leeds to win and both teams to score @ 15/4
Chris Wood to score at any time
