Ipswich Town v Birmingham City betting preview

Ipswich Town fans are slowly becoming disillusioned with the lack of ambition at the club. Although Mick McCarthy managed to lead the side to the play-offs a few seasons ago, since then the Tractor Boys have languished in the bottom half of the division and a lack of investment seems to allowing the gap between themselves and a top six spot to grow.

The arrival of Joe Garner from Rangers is an interesting one, but that deal aside it's been another uninspiring summer at Portman Road and supporters are perhaps understandably becoming slightly apathetic to the fortunes of the club after the last few years. Can the team get the fans back on board from the start of this season with a win here at 7/5 with Ladbrokes.

Birmingham City have been linked with several Premier League old boys this summer, although that's perhaps more to do with Harry Redknapp's reputation as a manager rather than any substantial interest. Instead, the business that the former Tottenham boss has done appears to be shrewd, with the likes of Marc Roberts and David Stockdale bringing Championship quality and experience.

Last season was another disappointing one for the Blues. After the shock sacking of Gary Rowett, the club slid well out of the play-off picture and were seemingly heading for relegation under the guidance of Gianfranco Zola at one point. After Redknapp kept the side in the division last term , he'll be hoping to kick off the new term with three points on Saturday at 9/4 with Betfair.

We're anticipating a low-scoring game here. Both of these sides' seasons were categorised by a lack of goals at times last season and Birmingham's games were definitely low-scoring affairs, particularly towards the back end of the season. These early season fixtures can sometimes be tense affairs with teams still learning to play together, we're on under 2.5 goals here at 4/6 with Sky Bet.

Recommended bets:
Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6 with Sky Bet
Ipswich to win 1-0 @ 7/1 with BetVictor
