Huddersfield’s dream start to Premier League life came to an end on Monday and there could be further disappointment in store for them when they host Leicester.

The Terriers had not conceded a goal in their first 341 minutes of top-flight football since 1972, but then a heavily deflected Pedro Obiang shot – which really should have been awarded as an own goal – and Andre Ayew’s close-range effort inflicted a 2-0 defeat at West Ham.

Manager David Wagner admitted his side had not been brave or confident enough to have a go at their opponents in that game and having watched it, I completely agree. Huddersfield appeared too intent on staying solid and keeping their shape, passing the ball around at the back and seeming to lack quality in attack other than an occasional flurry from Tom Ince.

Now, Town are at home to a side who have lost three of their four league matches this season, but what must be remembered is that Leicester have already played Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea and were far from disgraced in any of those contests.

The Foxes twice led away to Arsenal, were level for more than three-quarters of the game at Old Trafford and when they did play more beatable opponents, they won comfortably against Brighton and also away to Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup.

Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare continues to stick with the majority of the team who won the title two seasons back and while that incredible achievement is starting to feel like quite a long time ago now, there is still enough evidence that they remain very competitive.

While Huddersfield showed last term they are good at bouncing back after criticism from their manager, this is a whole new level for them and reality may be starting to kick in and that helps to convince us that Leicester’s proven quality will prevail here.

Huddersfield Town vs Leicester City stats

  • The Foxes scored two or more goals in all seven of those games
