Huddersfield Town vs Brighton predictions for their Premier League match at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday. The Terriers have lost their last four games. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.

This is something of a must-win match for Huddersfield as they aim to reverse their alarming slide down the table, but they may have to settle for a point against their fellow Premier League newcomers.

Huddersfield were last in the top flight in 1972 and Brighton in 1983, long before the old First Division was given its modern identity, and it’s the club from the south coast who are currently better positioned to extend their stay beyond a single season.

That is because the Yorkshire team are on a worrying run of seven defeats in nine games after a promising start, and their away form is the main concern because Huddersfield have not scored a goal on their travels since the opening weekend of the campaign.

Therefore, it looks increasingly likely that if David Wagner’s side are to avoid an immediate return to the Championship, they will have to collect the points they need to do so on their own pitch.

But in fairness, the Terriers are a much more formidable proposition at the John Smith’s Stadium where, in their last three outings, they have beaten Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion and led at half-time against Manchester City only to concede a late winner to the runaway league leaders.

Brighton will know they could be in for a tough time then, but in their favour is that they are keeping things very tight on their travels (see stats below) and that has helped them to maintain what looks a fairly secure position in mid-table.

A goalfest looks improbable and like a couple of the other 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League on Saturday, we think this game will be nip and tuck and that it could end with honours even – an outcome that would be more acceptable to Brighton than Huddersfield.

Huddersfield Town vs Brighton stats

  • None of the last nine matches between Huddersfield and Brighton hosted by either club, all of them in the Championship since 2013, has resulted in an away win
  • Brighton have won on only one of their last nine visits to Huddersfield
  • Only Manchester City and Chelsea have better away defensive records than Brighton in the Premier League this season
