Chelsea vs Hull City predictions for Friday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie at Stamford Bridge. The Blues bounced back to form with a 3-0 win over West Brom on Monday. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.

Hull City have a terrible record against Chelsea (see stats below) and it is highly unlikely to get any better when they meet for a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Friday.

Chelsea’s defeats to the Tigers are as rare as hen’s teeth – only four times in 46 matches have Hull come out on top, all at their home ground, and they waited 63 years for a victory before another eventually came along in 1988, which was their most recent success.

And with the reigning Premier League champions having returned to winning ways after two heavy losses with a 3-0 triumph against West Brom four days before this tie, we cannot envisage anything other than Chelsea making it two home victories in between weekends.

Hull probably wish they could play Nottingham Forest every time. Their latest two wins have been against the former European champions, 2-1 at home in the FA Cup fourth round and then 2-0 last Saturday for a first Championship success in 10 attempts.

Nigel Adkins was a head-scratcher of a managerial appointment after the Leonid Slutsky experiment unsurprisingly failed and the former Southampton boss has his work cut out to keep the Tigers in the second tier, having only clambered out of the bottom three by beating Forest.

Probably the biggest game on the horizon for Hull is the six-pointer against Barnsley at the end of this month, and they may well realise this is a tie they have little realistic chance of winning especially with three on-loan Chelsea players unable to feature against their parent club.

In the week when Hull midfielder Ryan Mason had to retire due to a fractured skull sustained against Chelsea, it would be poignant if the visitors could pull off an upset for him - but logic tells us that a routine home victory is much the most likely outcome.

Chelsea vs Hull City stats

  • This is the 10th FA Cup match between these clubs and Hull are seeking their first win in the competition against Chelsea, who needed a replay to progress in three of the six ties
  • The latest FA Cup meeting came in the 1999-2000 third round when Chelsea won 6-1 away from home with a Gus Poyet hat-trick on their way to lifting the trophy that season
  • Hull have never won away to Chelsea in 22 attempts, losing 17 times and drawing five
