Burton Albion v Sheffield United Championship predictions, betting tips and match preview here. With a chance to go top of the table temporarily at least with a victory here we're backing three points for the Blades at the Pirelli Stadium.

  • Burton Albion have won just one of their last nine matches in all competitions
  • Sheffield United meanwhile have won four of their last five games in the Championship
  • The Brewers have not lost in their last four fixtures against the Blades

Burton Albion v Sheffield United betting preview

Given the financial restraints on a club of Burton Albion's size, the only realistic aim that they have this season is to remain in the Championship as they managed to last season against the odds. It's going to be a long, uphill battle for the Midlands club but they're just about managing to keep their heads above the relegation zone as things stand as they sit in 21st place with 16 matches gone, just one position and one point clear of the relegation zone.

After a decent spell of form in late August and early September, a 4-1 EFL Cup mauling at the hands of Manchester United appeared to knock the wind out of the Brewers' sails and began a run of eight games without a win in all competitions as they shipped four goals on three separate occasions on that run too. Last time out however, Nigel Clough's men ground out a vital away win over Millwall, can they build on that by earning another three points here at 16/5 with Betfair.

Sheffield United have not struggled whatsoever with the step up in class between League One and the Championship. The momentum of winning the third tier title at a canter last season has clearly carried on through into the new campaign in the second tier and the Bramall Lane fanbase must be dreaming of back-to-back promotions given the way their side have performed in the opening stages of the season and they find themselves in second place after 16 games.

A surprise defeat at Queens Park Rangers aside, the Blades have been in terrific form of late too, picking up four victories in their last five games including a 4-1 mauling of Leonid Slutsky's Hull City last weekend. With confidence clearly flowing and the opportunity to head to the top of the table before Wolverhampton Wanderers' trip to Reading on Saturday, the South Yorkshire side are favourites for the victory in this game at odds of 19/20 with Marathonbet

Burton Albion may not be the most quality attacking side in the league, but in players like Lucas Akins and Marvin Sordell they do possess a few forward threats and they have scored in each of their last three games despite winning only one. It's worth noting that Sheffield United have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last four games despite winning three of them, so the away win and both teams to score bet at odds of 16/5 with William Hill looks good to us.

Leon Clarke played something of a bit-part for Sheffield United last season as they gained promotion from the Championship, but the journeyman striker has found his shooting boots in the Championship this season and outscored fans' favourite Billy Sharp thus far. In 13 league appearances so far this term the former Coventry and Wolves man has racked up eight goals and we're backing him to get on the scoresheet again in this game.

Recommended bets:
Sheffield United to win and both teams to score @ 16/5 with William Hill
Leon Clarke to score at any time
