Atalanta v Everton betting preview

Atalanta surprised everybody last year in Italy by upsetting the odds and the status quo to secure an impressive fourth placed finish in the table, finishing above the likes of Lazio, Fiorentina and both Milan clubs. All of those clubs have spent money to strengthen over the summer however and now La Dea must compete in both the league and Europe, which provides problems of it's own.

It's been a slow start to the new league campaign too for Gian Piero Gasperini and his side. Although matches against Roma and Napoli to kick off the new season were always going to be difficult, the Italian boss will have been disappointed to lose both, although he will have been happy with the way they bounced back after the international break to beat Sassuolo. The hosts are priced at 11/8 for the win with bet365.

Everton look set to be the best of the rest in the Premier League once again this summer. Ronald Koeman has worked hard to improve his squad during the transfer window and made some impressive signings with the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Gylffi Sigurdsson joining the returning Wayne Rooney, but it has to be said that the Merseyside club don't look ready to compete for a top six spot this term.

After a strong start with a home win over Stoke and a handy point earned in an away draw with title favourites Manchester City, the Toffees have since gone down in 2-0 and 0-3 defeats to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. With the task of French giants Lyon to come later in the group stages, Everton will be desperate to start with an away win here at odds of 11/5 with Coral to put themselves in a strong position early on.

Everton have looked toothless going forward in their last two matches and they are perhaps starting to miss the presence of Romelu Lukaku, who departed for Manchester United over the summer. We think away from home on the continent following a few years out of European competition, they could struggle to create chances and the hosts will keep things tight and nick a win to nil at odds of 29/10 with BetVictor.

Alejandro Gomez was the star man in Atalanta's incredible season last time around. Although he hasn't yet managed to get on the scoresheet in Serie A this term, he managed no fewer than 16 goals in 37 league appearances last season and the team's skipper is their talisman when he turns on the style. We can see him finding the net in this game and you can back him to do so at odds of 13/5 with Paddy Power.

Recommended bets:
Atalanta to win to nil @ 29/10 with BetVictor
Alejandro Gomez to score at any time @ 13/5 with Paddy Power
