Arsenal vs Leicester City predictions for their Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Friday August 11. This is match No 1 of 380 in the Premier League’s 2017-18 season. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.

For the second year running, Leicester City contest the very first match of the Premier League season away from home – only this time it will be no surprise if they lose again.

Twelve months ago, as reigning champions following their incredible title success, the Foxes kicked off the campaign with a visit to newly-promoted Hull City on the opening Saturday lunchtime and slipped to a shock 2-1 defeat against a team who were eventually relegated.

Perhaps that was the first sign of what was to come for Leicester because at one stage they were in danger of the drop themselves, a situation that led to their title-winning manager Claudio Ranieri being sacked and his assistant Craig Shakespeare leading them out of trouble.

Shakespeare has been appointed as the permanent boss this summer and he will want to get Leicester on a roll as they were from the outset of the 2015-16 campaign – but that looks difficult to achieve considering they begin away to Arsenal.

It’s the first time the Premier League has started on a Friday night and the Gunners will hope it heralds a new era for them, even though Arsene Wenger’s reign rolls on into its third decade with the Frenchman having signed a new deal to stay on for two more years.

Striker Alexandre Lacazette and left-back Sead Kolasinac are two players the home fans will be keen to see make their Premier League debuts, while Leicester’s summer arrivals at the time of writing were ex-Hull duo Harry Maguire and Eldin Jakupovic, midfielder Vicente Iborra and striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

Leicester’s record against Arsenal is poor (see stats below) and they lost to a late Robert Huth own goal on their last visit here in April. They are fancied to score a goal this time, but ultimately another home victory looks the most likely outcome to give Arsenal a flying start they very much need.

Arsenal vs Leicester City stats

  • Arsenal have not lost to Leicester in the last 23 meetings of these clubs
  • The last time the Foxes won away to the Gunners was in 1973, having failed in 24 subsequent attempts
  • Both teams have scored in seven of the last nine meetings
