Real Madrid vs CSKA Moscow betting tips

CSKA Moscow have already beaten Real Madrid in the Champions League this season - and may need to complete an unlikely double if they are to remain in Europe after Christmas.

Nikola Vlasic, on loan from Everton, scored the only goal in the second minute of the match as CSKA won the reverse fixture 1-0 during a poor spell of results for Real that led to the sacking of manager Julen Lopetegui just 14 games into his reign.

But since then, the European champions have got back on track under Santiago Solari and clinched top spot in Group G with a match to spare thanks to their home-and-away victories over fellow qualifiers Roma.

All that remains to be resolved in this pool is whether CSKA or Viktoria Plzen will finish third and move into the Europa League knockout stage. The duo are level pegging but, with a worse head-to-head record, CSKA need to gain more points than the Czechs on Wednesday.

The Russian club will need a result akin to the one they achieved in November 1992 when they won 3-2 away to then-holders Barcelona to knock them out of the European Cup.

However, a similar shock looks highly improbable here, despite the result in Moscow in early October, and Real are expected to win comfortably and potentially end their opponents’ European campaign for this season.
