Tottenham striker Harry Kane has revealed that he and his team thought their Champions League clash with Monaco was a mid-season friendly.
The Premier League side strolled through the match, eventually losing 2-1 and crashing out of the Champions League.
Spurs fans who had spend a small fortune on beer alone in France were left confused by the lacklustre display, but all now seems clear.
Speaking after the game, Kane said: "We're just finding out now it was a competitive match. Obviously that's disappointing.
"We took it easy thinking we needed to rest up as we continue to be the new invincibles this weekend.
"How can a stadium like be the home of the Champions League club? I think you can see why we got confused.
"Like I say, obviously we're disappointed. Onto the next one."
Mauricio Pochettino was too angry for comment.
