Wayne Rooney delighted to be back at Everton

Wayne Rooney of Manchester United prepares to come onto the pitch during the UEFA Europa League Final between Ajax and Manchester United

Wayne Rooney is back at Everton after re-signing for his boyhood club on a free transfer. Speaking about his return, he said he's delighted to be back home.

After several months of speculation about Rooney's future, he has signed for Everton, bringing an end to 13 years at Manchester United since he made the switch in the opposite direction.

At 31-years-old, Rooney will be keen to play regularly for the Toffees and repay some of the faith the club have paid in him to make this transfer happen.

As we know, he hadn't been a first-team regular for Manchester United last season and will hope to get much more game time at Goodison Park.

Speaking about returning to his boyhood club, Rooney said: "It's a great feeling to be back. I cannot wait to meet the lads, get on the training pitch and then get on the pitch to play.

"I'm not just coming back because it's the team I support, the team I grew up playing for - I'm coming back because I feel the club can move forward and be successful

"I want to be part of it. There will be pressure on me to perform, but I'm ready to go. I believe I can help move this club forward and be more successful on the pitch."

Everton boss Ronald Koeman added: "Wayne has shown me that ambition that we need and that winning mentality - he knows how to win titles and I'm really happy he's decided to come home

"He loves Everton and he was desperate to come back. He is still only 31 and I don't have any doubts about his qualities. It's fantastic he's here."

Rooney could make his second debut when Everton begin pre-season for the 2017-2018 season, next week.
