Swansea City have omitted Gylfi Sigurdsson from their pre-season tour of the United States after Everton had a £40million bid rejected for the Iceland international.

Sigurdsson is not “in the right frame of mind to travel due to the current uncertainty over his future”, according to an official statement from Swansea City.

The Swans are understood to want a transfer fee of £50million if Sigurdsson is to be sold. Leicester City are also reported to be interested in signing him.

Sigurdsson said in May he would not leave Swansea unless the club wanted to sell him. Although there were suggestions that his head had been turned by Everton's interest, he captained Swansea in the second half of their friendly-match defeat at Barnet on Wednesday.

After that match, Swansea head coach Paul Clement said:

“I've made it very clear I want him to stay here. The fans want that, the owners would like that but ultimately there's a business side to football as well.
“We had that situation with Jack Cork (whom Swansea sold to Burnley on Tuesday). Earlier in the summer there was no thought of moving Jack on, but it got to a point where another club came in with a really good offer.
“That could end up being the case with Gylfi. We don't know yet.”

Sigurdsson, who joined Swansea from Tottenham Hotspur for £6.8m in July 2014, was the key player as the Welsh club avoided relegation to the Championship last season.

The 27-year-old scored nine league goals and provided 13 assists on his way to being named the club's player of the year for the second successive campaign.

Only two other players, Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne and Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, brought more goals and assists to their teams.

Everton emerged as early front-runners for Sigurdsson's signature with the Toffees spending heavily in this summer transfer window.

Goodison Park majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri plans to upset the top flight's established order and Everton manager Ronald Koeman has spent close to £100million so far in recruiting Wayne Rooney, Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Michael Keane and Sandro Ramirez.

That figure could now rise significantly as Sigurdsson returns to Wales to speak to Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins about his future.

Swansea, meanwhile, will head to America for a three-match tour against Philadelphia Union, Richmond Kickers and North Carolina FC without their talisman.
