TRANSFER NEWS: Sunderland accept £30m bid for Jordan Pickford from Everton

  • Everton look set to add a goalkeeper to their squad in the coming days
  • The Toffees have had a £30m offer for Sunderland's Jordan Pickford accepted
Jordan Pickford of England

Sunderland look set to lose goalkeeper Jordan Pickford following their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship as they have accepted a £30m bid for the 23 year old from Ronald Koeman's Everton.

The young goalkeeper was always likely to attract attention following his terrific breakthrough season as he remained one of the Black Cats' star performers despite his side's relegation from the Premier League.

Pickford, who was born and raised within a few miles of the Stadium of Light and joined the club's academy as an eight year old, played 29 Premier League games and along with striker Jermaine Defoe was one of few players from the club to end the season with any credit.

As an England youth international with over 40 youth caps to his name across several of the Young Lions teams, Pickford looks set to be included in first team squads before too long and as just 23, he has a great future in the game.

The Black Cats will have been preparing themselves for bids throughout the summer for one of their major assets and it's no surprise that Everton have come in for him given the money that the Toffees are reportedly set to spend this summer.

Both Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg have flattered to deceive at Goodison Park and Koeman will be hoping that the signing of Pickford will put an end to the uncertainty in this position that has hindered the Merseyside club in recent years.

It is thought that the bid accepted is set to be worth £18m up front, with up to £12m in add-ons depending on the club and player's performance and if the fee were to rise to £30m, Pickford would become the world's third most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

Regardless of the add-ons, Pickford now becomes the most expensive English goalkeeper of all-time should he pass his medical and agree a contract as expected when he returns from international duty in the coming weeks.
