Man City v Shakhtar Donetsk team news - Mendy facing late fitness test for Citizens

  • Man City welcome Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League tonight
  • Citizens full-back Benjamin Mendy faces a late fitness test

Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy faces a late fitness test in a bid to be fit for the side's Champions League group stage fixture versus Shakhtar Donetsk this evening.

The Frenchman limped off in this weekend's hammering of lowly Crystal Palace with a knee injury and he will be assessed by the medical team at the Etihad before tonight's game to see whether he should be involved, with two other City stars potentially out of action.

Ilkay Gundogan has returned to light training following the knee injury he sustained against West Bromwich Albion but is unlikely to be included, whilst Vincent Kompany is still recovering from a knock and Pep Guardiola won't want to risk aggravating that too soon.

Shakhtar Donetsk will be without three stars as they make the trip to England for Tuesday night's clash. Maksym Malyshev and Serhiy Kryvtsov are both in the treatment room whilst their talismanic captain Darijo Srna is set to miss out after failing a drugs test on Monday.
