Liverpool FC deny Coutinho transfer request claims

Liverpool have denied that Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho has submitted a transfer request in a bid to force through a move to Camp Nou.

The Brazilian playmaker has been strongly linked with the Catalan giants as a replacement for his international team-mate Neymar, who last week joined Paris Saint-Germain for a world record transfer fee of almost £200million.

Barcelona are understood to have had a bid of around £90million for Coutinho rejected by Liverpool and now reports have emerged suggesting Coutinho has asked to leave Anfield.

However, the Reds have insisted that is “not true” and their owners have also issued a statement reiterating their stance that the 25-year-old will not be sold during the current transfer window.

Owners Fenway Sports Group backed up manager Jurgen Klopp's public stance by saying:

“We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho.
“The club's definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer (transfer) window closes.”

Klopp had previously been quoted as saying:

“From a financial standpoint there is no price limit to let him go, a price at which we are ready to give in.
“Our goal is to have the best possible team, so we want to keep our guys and add new ones. That is our plan.
“Liverpool is not a club that has to sell players. That is set in stone. So what they pay in the end doesn't matter.”

Besides Coutinho, Barcelona are also interested in Borussia Dortmund winger Ousmane Dembele, who was this week suspended by his club after missing training and refusing to answer his phone to club officials.

The 20-year-old France international, who only joined Dortmund last summer from Rennes, has been the subject of a £90million bid from Barcelona which was rejected by the German club.

Dortmund said the Barca offer “did not correspond to the player's extraordinary footballing value and status as well as to the current economic market situation of the European transfer market”, and added that “a transfer of the player to FC Barcelona is at present not more than likely”.
